Goal:
At AMK Equestrian we are dedicated to the total enjoyment of riding and to the happiness and well being of both our riders and our equine athletes. Our goal is to provide the skill and understanding of horsemanship which will result in a life long love of riding. We stress safety through proper instruction from the ground up. We have programs designed to cater to the needs of the casual rider as well as the competitive rider. We take the time to find out about your specific needs or desires and together come up with a personalized plan to help you reach your goals.
Lesson Program:
Lessons are provided for adults and children of all ages from beginner to advanced levels. For new students, we provide a 30 minute evaluation session which will be used to determine group placement and riding level. Our lesson horses are experienced, well-schooled, and high quality show horses that are occasionally used by our students for competitions. We offer one hour and half hour riding lessons to better facilitate our riders. Semi-Private lessons consist of 2 riders and Private lessons will consist of one rider. Riding Lessons are taught by a trained professional with 16 years experience in riding, showing, and horse care.
Students not only learn how to ride, they also learn ALL aspects of horse care and horsemanship including, but not limited to, proper grooming, haltering and un-haltering, how to catch a horse, tacking and un-tacking, mounting and dis-mounting, leading, first aid, proper nutrition, and safety around horses. This teaches the student how to care for and properly and safely interact with a horse in the event that they may some day purchase one.
*Please Note:* All students will be required to learn proper horsemanship and care in a supervised atmosphere. Please take this into consideration when you are scheduling your lesson as this this will be considered part of your 30-minute or one hour riding lesson until your instructor feels confident that you can manage these tasks on your own.
Horse Shows:
All of our students are encouraged to attend local shows. The majority of shows we attend do not require expensive outfits, have low show fees and a fun family-filled atmosphere. We do attend local "A" and "AA" shows as well. Please take a look at our "Calender" link to see a list of shows we will be attending throughout the year. Coaching is offered while at shows to make the experience as pleasurable and educational as possible. Students who desire to show are invited to join the AMK Show Team.
Ridding Apparel:
ALL students are encouraged to wear a riding helmet while riding and students under the age of 18 are REQUIRED to wear one. The farm has limited riding helmets available for use during your lesson, however, we strongly suggest that you purchase your own helmet after your first few lessons. Students should wear a closed toe boot with a low heel and long pants. Students are also encouraged to bring their own water bottle as it gets very hot.
Riding Lesson Prices:
1-hr lesson: $20
30 minute Show Halter Lesson: $15 per horse
Natural Horsemanship/Round-Pen/Lungeing Lesson: $20 for 20 minutes to an hour (time varies depending on horse)
Horse Training Lessons
At AMK Equestrian we offer a unique program for people who have or are hoping to own a horse in the future. In my experience many people who have little to no experience with horses get drawn into the idea of buying a horse that has no training or is "too much" for the new owners. This often happens to newcomers because they like the idea that if they get a young horse that they and the horse can learn together or that their children can grow up with this young horse. There is nothing wrong with this as long as you seek out an experienced horse-person to help you with the new addition to your family. It's when people who have no idea what their doing try to train or tame a horse on their own that they get into trouble. What I offer is actual horse training lessons. I come to your facility and actually show YOU hands-on how to work with and train YOUR OWN horse. I don't do the training for you. I am there to guide you, show/explain what to do, and to help you if you get into trouble or if you get stuck in a rut. I use and teach safe, humane, and gentle training methods with an emphasis on earning the horse's trust and respect, so that you can develop a 50/50 relationship with your horse that will last for years to come.
